Two roof terraces on the seventh and ninth floor of a SOHO penthouse suite. Designed and constructed as associate designer at Delaney + Chin.
The principals of Stochastic Fractal Geometry were used to generate the granite paving of the terraces. The energetic patterning draws from the chaos of the city below.
The fractal patterning is drawn up into the faceted forms of the planters, extending the pattern into 3 dimensional space.
A more complex patterning was used on the ground plane of the ninth floor, to better support the intended use of the terrace as an entertainment space.
The faceted planters of the ninth floor terrace were skinned in antiqued mirror, to increase the fracturing effect of the fractal forms.
Planter forms were custom designed to fit the existing structure of the site.
